Follow the Fosse d'Artannes, passing the 2 Neolithic bridges that once provided the only access to a man made island, created by digging a 2km ditch (the Fosse) to the west of the Thouet river. Following the river, you will pass the the outskirts of Bagneaux. If you have time (and the interest, there is further Neolithic construction to be seen at the Dolmen of Bagneux. As you approach Saumur you enter through the parkland adjacent to the Thouet and cross it to enter the town itself. You journey along the main street, with typical retail outlets, plus cafes, bars, hotels, the Theatre and arrive in front of the impressive Town Hall.
