Moulin2Roues to Montreuil Bellay, Brézé (Loop)

This is a great route for a bit of quiet cycling with very little traffic. Opportunity to have an ice-cream, hot or cold drink at Moulin2Roues, and maybe a snack at the nice restaurant in Montreuil Bellay. There is of course the 2 chateaux to see and potentially visit.

Moulin2Roues
intermediate track

This section consists of very quiet roads through small villages with about 250m along a non-vehicular path. You will pass along rows and rows of vines, and fields of typically sunflowers, poppies and corn.

You are able to follow the green arrows as this track is part of La Velo Francette and Thouet a velo bike routes - and is signposted.

intermediate stop
Château de Montreuil-Bellay

The Château de Montreuil-Bellay is a striking medieval powerhouse turned elegant Renaissance residence. Perched above the Thouet River, this "fortress-palace" is defined by its massive defensive walls and 15 formidable towers. Within its 600-meter perimeter, visitors discover a rare architectural blend: the rugged 15th-century "Grand Châtelet" and the refined "Châteauneuf" apartments.
Famous for its exceptionally preserved vaulted kitchens and underground cellars, the estate remains a living piece of history. Beyond its stones, it is a renowned wine estate, offering tastings of AOC Saumur wines produced on-site, perfectly merging military history with French art de vivre.

Mostly cycling through fields or alongside the forest, in the early summer corn and sunflowers turn the route yellow!

intermediate stop
Château de Brézé

A very different experience from the others, Chateau de Brézé isnt just large dining halls, big bathrooms and tapestries. There's an even bigger world underground! Built into the tuffeau caves are wine making, baking, kitchens, stables - its like it was an under ground village! This chateau is probably the best for kids as its not just history, its an adventure.

Château de Brézé
intermediate track

A short route takes you from the mill to the small town of Brézé. Aprart from the obvious Chateau experience, there are several winemakers offering tastings and a cafe/ restaurant & bar.
